Chris Walker


Chris has been associated with numerous productions across the UK and USA, West End and Broadway, as a Musical Director, Orchestrator and Dance Arranger. Shows include: Godspell, Oliver!, Side by Side by Sondheim, My Fair Lady, Tomfoolery, Me and My Girl, Cabaret, Follies, Hot Shoe Shuffle and The Secret Garden. Chris has also worked extensively for TV and film providing orchestrations for the movies Shirley Valentine,Impromptu and, most recently, Olympus Has Fallen. He is also a prolific composer and has produced numerous cast recordings.

His credits include writing the orchestrations and dance arrangements for the West End Production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which ran for over three and a half years at The London Palladium. The show also transferred to Broadway and continued with three highly successful National Tours of the UK. Chris was also the Musical Director for the London production of Ragtime and has worked with its Olivier Award-winning star, Maria Friedman on her one-woman show at festivals throughout Europe and at The Carlyle Café in New York. More recently they worked together again on her show Maria Friedman-Re-Arranged at The Menier Chocolate Factory in London.

Chris created the dance arrangements for the National Theatre and Cameron Mackintosh’s West End production of My Fair Lady and its highly successful UK and USA National Tour. The West End run at The Theatre Royal, Haymarket and the UK Tour of Acorn Antiques and a recording of The Likes of Us, the first show ever composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, also contained Chris’s orchestrations as did Imagine This which had its world premiere at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth before transferring to The New London Theatre.

He was the Musical Supervisor of Stage Entertainment’s production Der Schuh Des Manitu which ran for two years at the Theater des Westens in Berlin and orchestrator of the Menier Chocolate Factory’s production of Cy Coleman’s Sweet Charity starring Tamsin Outhwaite which subsequently transferred to The Theatre Royal, Haymarket.

In the summer of 2010, he orchestrated both Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods at Regent’s Park, Open Air Theatre and a new musical, Lend Me A Tenor, for The Theatre Royal, Plymouth before it transferred to the Gielgud Theatre in Spring 2011. Towards the end of 2010 Chris also wrote orchestrations and dance arrangements for a new production of Me and My Girl at the Crucible Theatre and orchestrated a revival of The Secret Garden for the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh which then transferred to Toronto.

In addition, Chris provided the orchestrations and dance arrangements for the first ever stage adaptation of Irving Berlin’s Top Hat which toured the UK in the summer of 2011 before transferring to the Aldwych Theatre. The show is currently on another UK National tour before transferring to Japan in 2015.

He was responsible for orchestrating the arrangements for Ragtime in May 2012 and The Sound of Music which received glowing reviews during the summer of 2013 at the Regents’ Park Open Air Theatre.

Chris’s most recent credits include the orchestrations for Victoria Wood’s musical, That Day We Sang, which ran at The Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester in December 2013 which he re-orchestrated for Tubby and Enid – a television drama based on the show which aired on BBC2 in December 2014.

He is currently reworking the orchestrations for Linnie Reedman and Joe Evans’ adaptation of The Great Gatsby following performances at The King’s Head Theatre, Islington and The Riverside Studios, Hammersmith in 2012/2013. As well as re-orchestrating Anything Goes for The Crucible production’s subsequent tour, his latest assignments include the dance arrangement and an orchestration for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s latest production of Cats at The London Palladium in December 2014 and orchestrations for a UK Tour of The Producers in 2015.
